The Arno River Basin Authority coordinates the planning and management activities of the 11 different UoM in the Northern Appennines River Basin District in accordance with Legislative Decree 219 of 2010.

The latter Decree assignes, at national level, a coordination role to the 6  National Basin Authorities since the establishment of the District Authorities is still awaited. Therefore the Arno River Basin Authority coordinates the activities of the 11 Units of  Management belonging to the Northern Appennines River Basin District.  In accordance with its coordination role the Arno River Basin Authority has been organizing regular meetings with the competent Directors of the Regions belonging to the District’s territory to define the work schedule and  establish, as far as possible, common criterias and practices.

As regards to the preliminary flood risk assessment Italy decided, in accordance with Art. 13 of the Flood Directive and of Art . 11 of Legislative Decree 49/2010, to proceed directly to the drafting of the Flood Hazard and Flood Risk Maps on the basis of the exhisting Flood Risk and Landslide Mitigation Plans “PAI” (see the section).

Apart from the coordination role the Arno River Basin Authority is responsible for the implementation of the Directive in the Arno River Basin. The “Ombrone Pistoiese” pilot sub-basin  was chosen as a case study. Flood hazard maps of the Ombrone Pistoiese sub-basin were approved by our Technical Committee on November 30th, 2011.

We are currently drafting the Flood Hazard and Flood Risk Maps.
